About ALUPH
I. Context of Creation
The Association of University Leaders for the Promotion of Persons with Disabilities (ALUPH) was founded in 2010 by students with disabilities at the University of Burundi.
It was officially approved by Ministerial Ordinance n° 530/989 of July 23, 2015.
The initiative emerged from persistent barriers in academic life and social inclusion.
- • Difficulty finding housing adapted to disability-related needs.
- • Transport and mobility infrastructure that did not support accessible movement to and from university.
- • Campus food services not adapted to specific needs, affecting health and academic success.
- • A collective response was built through student solidarity, rights advocacy, and organized action.
